Deana has been one of the artists I collected since early in my collecting journey. I think I found her work from doing a search for certain colors - she is a master/mistress at use of color! One of the many things I admire about her is that she seems to have found a way to incorporate creating art with her personal life / family life.

Art can be reupholstering a chair, it can be a garden planting, a hand-colored scarf - it is things altering Deana’s life in creative ways. My early acquisitions were realistic still life...then I went to more abstract still life...then to geometric pieces...then landscapes, then curves and swoops... I bought several of Deana’s pieces during that evolution. She is awesome at painting abstract-but-recognizable pieces, which were an important bridge for me. She posted a painting with lots of purple recently and I immediately thought, I need that! That's still the visual effect of her work on me! - Sara B.

Deana's paintings have been my favorite representations of the natural world for many years--They are present, cheering and comforting me, in every room of my home. I especially love her brushstrokes and casual mixing of colors; her acute eye for color, light and shade always make me look more carefully, and her quirky and creative eye has helped me see more in the world around me. “Upcycled objects made from broken ceramics hold a special place in my heart due to the fact that I am extremely clumsy and I have some amazing ceramics at home–it’s not the best combo :P I just fell in love with this jewelry created by multi-talented artist Deana Mattos Diefenbach. The necklaces and belts kind of remind me of the exhibits at the archeology museum in Istanbul–where bits and pieces of broken pottery were pieced back together to make breath-taking pots, jugs and vases, part old and part new.
